Indian Institute of Technology i.e. IIT Guwahati has started a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) program. This program will be in biomedical science and engineering. The special thing about this course is that there will be no need for a JEE score to get admission to it. This program will be done under the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology (JBMSHST).
This important course will be run in collaboration with three major institutions including IIT Guwahati, AIIMS Guwahati, and NIPER Guwahati. The most special thing about this program is that it completes engineering, medical science, and pharmaceuticals in a single course so that students can gain understanding and experience in all these fields.
Professor Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, said that in the coming times, there will be a great need for such expertise in the field of health and technology that can work beyond traditional boundaries. This course has been prepared to keep this need in mind.
Historic step
AIIMS Guwahati Director Professor Ashok Puranik said that this is a historic step that will give a new shape to the future of healthcare and education in India. Subjects like genetics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and nanotechnology will be taught in this program.
In this program, students will also get a chance for clinical immersion. Where they will be able to gain professional experience by working with surgeons and expert doctors. Apart from this, students will get an opportunity to understand and bridge the gap between technology and healthcare through special engineering modules.
Career opportunities in AI too
The admission process will run from 25 April to 25 May 2025. Students who have scored at least 75% marks in 12th (Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology) in 2024 or 2025 or have passed the IISER Aptitude Test 2025 can apply.
