Vin Diesel and Paul Walker starred together in the 2001 actioner The Fast and the Furious. The film became a big success and spawned a globe-trotting box office juggernaut of a franchise that started from street racing and eventually transitioned into a heist action entertainer.
Most of the films of the franchise were massive box office successes and after the penultimate movie Fast X (2023) ended on a couple of huge cliffhangers, the final movie was keenly awaited.
Ever since the release of Fast X, Vin Diesel has been teasing about the Fast & Furious finale even hinting at the return of Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor.

However, it now looks like the fans may never get to witness how this 25-year-old franchise will come to a conclusion.
Fast & Furious Final Movie Shelved?Despite Vin Diesel’s continuous hyping of the Fast & Furious 11, a report in The Wall Street Journal claimed that the script of the film isn’t complete yet and despite the lead star’s recent claims of 2027 release, the finale doesn’t have a set release date or timeline.
That’s not all, the previous film in the franchise was made on a whopping $340 million budget and barely broke even with lowest US gross in the franchise since 2006.
The final film has a budget of $250 million but Universal Pictures now wants to reduce the cost by $50 million and make it for not more than $200 million.
The major chunk of the budget goes to cast members fees with Diesel taking $25 million plus per film.
In order to cut down the cost, the studio is looking to limit the film’s globe-trotting adventure and reduce screen time for some cast members or maybe not have them in the final film at all.

Reacting to the report, producer Neal Moritz stated, “The only thing we’re focused on is making this a satisfying finale both creatively and financially.”
What Vin Diesel Said About The Final Fast & Furious Movie Earlier?Earlier this year at Fuel Fest, Vin Diesel had teased, “The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of Fast & Furious in April 2027?’ I said under three conditions: The first is to bring the franchise back to L.A. The second thing was to return to the car culture — to the street racing! You wanna know what the third thing was? The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner. That is what you’re gonna get in the finale! Love you!”

Vin Diesel is yet to react to the latest report but as of now the future of the once beloved franchise that has made a combined total of over $7 billion at the worldwide box office seems bleak.
Besides Vin Diesel and (AI/CGI) Paul Walker, the Fast & Furious final movie (if made) is expected to star Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron among others.
