Mercedes-Benz India has posted its highest-ever fiscal sales performance in the country, retailing 18,928 units in FY 2024-25, a 4% growth over the previous financial year. The strong showing was driven largely by booming demand for its Top-End Luxury segment , electric vehicle (BEV) adoption, and continued interest in its core portfolio. However, the company saw a dip in Q1 2025 sales, which stood at 4,775 units, down 11.8% year-on-year, mainly due to a slowdown in the entry-level luxury segment.
Mercedes-Benz India FY2025: Top-performing models
The Top-End Luxury range, which includes flagships like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, EQS SUV and AMG models, emerged as the star performer. The segment recorded a 34% growth over the previous fiscal, accounting for more than one in every four Mercedes-Benz cars sold in India. Notably, the AMG G 63, Mercedes-Maybach Night Series , and the new G 580 with EQ Technology generated overwhelming demand. In some cases, customers are waiting up to 12 months for deliveries.
The electric push is beginning to bear fruit too. Mercedes-Benz’s battery electric vehicle sales grew 51% year-on-year in FY25, with electric models now accounting for 7% of total sales. The locally assembled EQS SUV led the charge as the company’s best-selling EV, helping push BEV penetration to 8% in the first quarter of 2025. The electric versions of the G 580 and Maybach have also seen strong interest.
While the spotlight shone on premium models, Mercedes-Benz’s core offerings, comprising the C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLC and GLE, remained steady contributors to the brand’s volumes. The LWB E-Class, in particular, continued its dominance as India’s highest-selling luxury car, now bolstered by the new E 450 variant.
That said, the Entry Luxury segment witnessed a notable decline of 28% in Q1 2025. According to the company, this segment is currently navigating a highly competitive market, dominated by price-sensitive offerings. Mercedes-Benz says its focus remains on delivering feature-rich, value-laden cars rather than cutting corners for volume.
SUVs continue to dominate the company’s sales charts, contributing 60% to overall volumes. This includes a wide mix of models from the GLA to the G-Class.
Mercedes-Benz also revealed major expansion plans under its ‘Go to Customer’ strategy. It aims to open 21 new MAR20X luxury outlets in 2025 with a Rs. 450 crore investment from franchise partners. The company recently inaugurated a new facility in Agra and will soon enter Kanpur, Varanasi, Jammu, and other key Tier-II markets.
