Tesla’s long-anticipated entry into the Indian electric vehicle market may finally become a reality soon. Why so? Well, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the updated 2025 Tesla Model Y was recently spotted on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway , offering the clearest sign yet that the Elon Musk-owned EV giant is actively working on bringing its cars to Indian roads.
Tesla Model Y spotted testing in India: All we need to know
The camouflaged model appears to be the facelifted version of the Model Y, codenamed Juniper. The model is available in markets such as the US and Canada and brings notable design tweaks and feature upgrades over the Model Y.
As seen in the spied video, the model features several updates such as C-shaped LED taillights, a long, curved roofline, multiple twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in black colour and more. The model also has retained Tesla’s signature glass roof. If Tesla goes with the same colour options available globally, Indian buyers can expect six exterior paint choices such as Pearl White, Stealth Grey, Deep Blue Metallic, Ultra Red, Quicksilver, and Diamond Black.
The updated Model Y is offered globally in an all-wheel-drive setup, paired with a long-range battery. It delivers an impressive EPA-rated range of 526 km on a single charge. The electric SUV is capable of sprinting from 0 to 96 kmph in just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 200 kmph.
Speaking of features, it gets a massive 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch screen for rear passengers, ventilated seats, ADAS features, wireless charging, and much more.
Though Tesla has yet to confirm a timeline for its India debut, the test mule’s appearance suggests that the Model Y could be the first model to hit the Indian market. What do you think about the model and Tesla’s anticipated arrival in India? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
