Anantnag (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 26 (ANI): Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Saturday condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, saying that it was an attack on humanity.
Speaking to ANI, Mir said, "According to the reports coming from the ground, terrorists separated men and women, and killed the men after asking their religion. This means it was an agenda. They not just targeted humanity and Kashmiriyat, they also targeted the livelihood of Kashmiris. The entire country has to defeat this agenda now. Now is the time for the country to come together and stand up in front of this fake agenda that has been set up. Jammu and Kashmir and the whole of India have never stood up together against terrorism in such large numbers, as is being seen now."
Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth termed all the "retaliatory actions" taken by the government in response to the Pahalgam terror attack justified. He added that the terrorists will not be spared.
"All the retaliatory actions are justified and we want as much action to be taken, as is possible. Revenge will be taken for every tear that the families of victims have shed. Terrorists will not be spared. The world stands with India and PM Narendra Modi. The world stands against terrorism," Seth said while speaking to ANI.
The attack in Pahalgam occurred on Tuesday at Baisaran meadow, where terrorists targeted tourists, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, and leaving several others injured. It was one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans.
Following the attack, the Central government has said that the terrorists responsible for the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and the conspirators behind it will face severe punishment. Opposition parties have expressed their full support for the government in any action against perpetrators of the terror attack.
The central government has decided to hold the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism and has closed the integrated Attari Check Post.
The central government has also revoked all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens, except long-term visas, diplomatic and official visas, with immediate effect from April 27. (ANI)
