While Shah Rukh Khan is known for his eloquence and is the epitome of grace, the superstar, who hails from Delhi, was known to be more rowdy in his early days in Bollywood. In an interview at THINK 2012, the ‘ Pathaan’ star admitted that in his early days in Mumbai, he lost his temper often and did some ‘really nasty stuff.’
"I fought, I beat up people, and I did really nasty stuff, which, naturally, Delhiites do. They don’t know that in other parts of the country, this is considered nasty. So I behaved really badly," he admitted.
He particularly recounted when he had lost his composure when a female journalist claimed he had grown close to a co-star in her magazine. He felt the line crossed a personal boundary and rang her to demand an explanation. What followed was not a cool exchange but a confrontation fueled by resentment. He remembers reacting in a brusque, confrontational tone, the more aggressive side of his Delhi upbringing taking over and making him sound far less composed than he does today.
Things escalated quickly after that phone call. He says he went to the journalist’s residence intending to confront those responsible.
At his wedding he had been given a ceremonial khukri by his father-in-law, and, in the chaos of the moment, he drew it and used it to frighten a young boy who happened to be nearby. He looks back and expresses bewilderment at his own conduct, recalling how he threatened the boy's family and told them he planned to do worse.
"My father-in-law gave me a Khukri knife at my wedding. I carried that to the journalist’s house. There was a young boy sitting in his shorts—I took the Khukri and stuck it in between his legs..." he revealed.
Authorities soon intervened, and he was detained. He recalls being taken into custody after evening hours, a timing he believed made it harder to secure release. From the lock-up he was permitted a single phone call, and impulsively he used it not to call counsel or kin but to warn the journalist once more. The situation only compounded until a fellow actor stepped in on his behalf. He credited Nana Patekar for arranging his bail and helping him through the immediate legal fallout.
SRK made his comeback in 2023 after a four-year hiatus and delivered two major blockbusters—‘Pathaan’ and ‘ Jawan.’ He was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s social comedy ‘ Dunki’.
