Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A day after three people lost their lives in the massive traffic jam near Arjun Baroda village on Bypass Road, the state Congress has demanded that each victim’s family be given ₹1 crore in compensation.
The party has also called for a police case of culpable homicide to be filed against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor responsible for the delayed bridge construction that triggered the chaos.
“This wasn’t just an accident—it was murder caused by negligence,” said Congress spokesperson Amit Chourasia. He strongly criticised the administration and NHAI, holding them responsible for the breakdown in traffic management and lack of planning that led to the tragedy.

Dewas district Congress president Manoj Rajani revealed that he had earlier written to the Indore Collector about the poor condition of roads near the construction site but said the warning fell on deaf ears.
“We flagged the issue. No one listened. Now three families are grieving and people are suffering,” he said. Rajani also blamed BJP leaders for ignoring the daily suffering of commuters.
32-Hour Nightmare
The chaos stemmed from the ongoing construction of a six-lane bridge in the area. With no proper diversions or service roads in place, what began as a routine traffic jam soon turned into a 32-hour-long nightmare trapping thousands of vehicles.
Congress leaders slammed the NHAI and state authorities for the official neglect. They demanded the bridge construction be completed as soon as possible and, criminal accountability fixed, and immediate relief be provided to the affected families.
