Brest Development in Boys Symptoms: Many changes take place in the body of boys during adolescence . Muscle development , deepening of voice , growth of moustache and beard etc. But sometimes a change is seen which puts them in embarrassment and mental stress .
Increase in breast size Some boys suddenly start accumulating fat around the chest and the size of the breast starts increasing like girls . This condition not only affects their self-image but also weakens their self - confidence . Many times they ignore it thinking it to be obesity , but Dr. J.C. Lal explains that this can be a medical condition called gynecomastia .
What could be the causes of gynecomastia ?
- Hormonal imbalance: Testosterone and estrogen are the two main hormones that determine male and female body characteristics. If the amount of estrogen increases in men, then breast tissue starts growing.
- Hormonal fluctuations during adolescence : This is the most common cause and in most cases resolves without treatment.
- Obesity: Increase in fat can also cause the chest to have a breast-like shape, which is called gynecomastia .
- Use of medications or steroids : Certain medications and body-building steroids can aggravate this condition.
- Liver or kidney disease: Sometimes serious organ disorders can also cause hormonal imbalance.
When should one be alert when breast size increases
- The enlarged breast tissue has persisted for a long time
- there is pain, a lump, or fluid leaking
- The size of one side is more and is increasing
- This problem is bothering you emotionally
What is the treatment?
- Treatment of gynecomastia depends on its cause
- Mild cases in adolescence do not require any treatment
- If there is hormonal imbalance, the doctor can check it and prescribe medication
- In some severe cases, surgery ( mastectomy or liposuction ) is recommended
- Lifestyle changes, such as exercise and weight loss, may also help.
Gynecomastia is not a matter of shame, but a common medical condition which is very important to understand and get treated in time. If you or someone you know is going through this condition, do not be afraid, seek expert advice and increase awareness .
