Tahawwur Rana Lawyer: It has been almost 17 years since the horrific Mumbai terror attack on 26 November 2008, but many secrets and accused behind this conspiracy are yet to be brought to justice. Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the alleged mastermind of this attack, has been extradited from the US to India. Piyush Sachdeva will now fight Rana's case.

Rana, who is a Pakistani citizen and has been living in the US for many years, is accused of being actively involved in the conspiracy of the 26/11 attacks. There is a demand in India to give him the death penalty. However, the Indian judicial system gives every accused the right to a fair trial and legal representation.

Piyush Sachdeva will fight the case of Tehvvur Rana

Tahawwur Rana's case will be fought by renowned Delhi lawyer Piyush Sachdeva, who has been appointed by the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Piyush Sachdeva is a 37-year-old legal professional, who obtained a law degree from ILS Law College, Pune in 2011 and later a master's degree in International Business and Commercial Law from King's College, London. His legal career spanning over a decade makes him competent for this challenging case.

Why is Sachdeva fighting Rana's case?

Under the system of Legal Services Authority, if an accused cannot hire a lawyer on his behalf or no lawyer is willing to take his case, then he is provided legal aid by the state. The same process was followed in Rana's case and DLSA entrusted this responsibility to Piyush Sachdeva.

How was Piyush Sachdeva appointed

When Tahawwur Rana was produced before special NIA judge Chandrajit Singh in Patiala House Court, he clearly told the court that he does not have a private lawyer. In accordance with the judicial principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution, the court directed the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide legal aid to the accused.

Following this order, DLSA assigned senior lawyer Piyush Sachdeva the responsibility of legally representing Rana. Sachdeva is not only on the panel of DLSA, but he also has ample experience in international and criminal cases.
