Lettuce is a staple when it comes to making delicious - but it also has a habit of turning bad far too quickly. There is nothing worse than pulling lettuce out from the fridge only to find it has gone limp, brown, slimy or just completely past its prime. So, how to keep your lettuce staying fresher for longer?
Thankfully, a family-operated waste management firm has the answer. Wheeldon Brothers has shared a simple storage hack that can help keep your lettuce fresh and green for up to a month longer - and we can't wait to give it a go.

"Wrapping freshly bought lettuce in tin foil before placing it in the fridge can extend its shelf life significantly — up to 30 days," the waste experts told the Express.
"This clever trick helps to regulate moisture and airflow, preventing those pesky brown spots that often plague salad greens."
Lettuce isn't the only fridge favourite that can benefit from proper storage techniques. According to the experts, spring onions and asparagus thrive when they are stored in a glass with a little water and loosely covered with a plastic bag. This trick can help them last two weeks.
Some ingredients fare far better out of the fridge, meanwhile. Cucumbers should be stored in a plastic bag with holes for ventilation, and placed in a cool spot in the kitchen to maintain crispness. And and potatoes should be kept at room temperature to help preserve their flavour and texture.
It comes after a lady took to TikTok to share her 'amazing' trick that she says keeps bananas fresh for 'ages'.
The technique takes only seconds and requires just one item: kitchen roll. In a video, user Dyanne demonstrated how she keeps her bananas looking fresh even after six days.
"What I do is wash the bananas in cold water and then I wrap the tops in a kitchen towel, and keep them wet every single morning," she explained.
"These are the same bananas I showed you six days ago, look... So you know what, it works... Your bananas will keep fresh a lot longer." Kitchen rolls are readily available at various online retailers and , and you don't need to spend a fortune on them.
You can grab a 'jumbo' roll at for just £1.35. The hack was met with praise in the comments section, with one user describing it as 'insane'. "Thanks for the tip, next trip to the store I'm getting bananas and trying this," another commenter.
Professional chef Peter Sidwell also has a unique trick up his sleeve to prevent bananas from spoiling too soon.
"Bananas actually release a gas called ethylene from their stems which ripens then and surrounding fruit, making them go rotten faster," he has explained.
As a result, he suggests keeping bananas away from other fruits like apples, pears, and melons, which are 'particularly sensitive' to this gas.
Sidwell also encourages Brits to store their bananas in a preserving bag in the fridge. But, he says, this should only be done once they've ripened, or else they'll stay 'hard and tasteless'.
