Fellow inmates at HMP Bronzefield are said to have issued threats against child killer Lucy Letby, with a source claiming she would not survive if she was in the prison's general population and not on a special unit.
Letby, 35, is currently serving 15 whole life sentences for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven more while working as a neonatal nurse at the Countess of ChesterHospital. She is currently being held in the prison's House Block 4 - which is specifically designated for inmates serving life sentences, long-term prisoners, and those with enhanced status due to good behaviour.
One inmate told the Mirror: “If she was out in general pop she wouldn’t have survived. There are women here with nothing to lose, they have said they will kill her, what’s one more life sentence when you’re already serving life?”

“There is so much hate for her here, so much hatred. But she’s not in general population, she’s here in Houseblock Four and she’s treated like a princess. She thinks she’s Queen Bee and it’s really, really annoying other prisoners because she shouldn’t be treated like that. If she was a man, she’d be stuck in the general population and she’d be getting attacked all the time.”
Sources inside the prison say Letby has landed three separate jobs behind bars - including two of the highest-paid roles - and is spending her earnings on junk food, crisps, and Quality Street chocolates. “She’s really pi****g off the other women as she stuffs her face with Quality Street chocolates and crisps,” an inmate said.
Most prisoners struggle to secure even one job, which offers limited pay and time out of their cells. Letby, however, works as a laundry assistant - considered one of the best jobs on the wing - earning around £8 a week. She also serves breakfast as a kitchen worker, earning an additional £8. “She does the toast in the morning, she does the laundry for our wing, so yeah always nice to people even when they are being sh*t to her,” the source added.
Her third job, recently obtained, is in the “enhanced library,” which is reserved for well-behaved inmates. She helps manage legal books and DVDs and keeps the space tidy. This role has pushed her weekly earnings to nearly £20 - a significant sum in prison.
But due to fears for her safety, Letby is not allowed to move around the prison without a guard and other inmates are often removed from shared areas, including the library, when she is present.
“She gets almost £20 a week, which in prison money is a lot. She buys loads and loads of junk food. She’s put on loads of weight, she’s got quite fat, you wouldn’t recognise her. It’s all put on around her face,” the source claimed. “She was moaning that she’s the fattest she’s ever been. She weighs 72 kilos [almost 11 stone 5oz] - she’s not fat, but fat for her, you know, as she was really, really skinny.
“She really loves doughnuts and we often get them for dessert here, but she claims to be eating healthily because she’s vegetarian, but meanwhile she’ll stuff her face with sweets and chocolate.”
Letby rarely spends time locked in her cell and is constantly escorted around due to threats against her life. Her status in the prison, and her ability to earn and spend freely, continues to fuel resentment among other inmates.
A spokesperson for Sodexo, the private company that runs HMP Bronzefield, said: “We do not comment on individual prisoners.”
