Air India Boeing 787 Door Malfunction: Two senior Air India flight attendants have written a shocking letter to PM Narendra Modi in which they have alleged that they were fired for telling the truth about the technical fault in the door of Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANQ). This incident is said to have occurred on May 14, 2024, when Mumbai-London flight AI-129 arrived at Heathrow Airport in London.
What is the matter? The crew alleged that after the passengers disembarked, the L4 door was opened in manual mode but despite that the Slide Raft deployed automatically which normally happens when the door is in automatic or armed mode.
The incident was first verified in writing by the commander and cabin-in-charge, but when he told the truth, he was allegedly threatened that he would be terminated if he did not change his statement.
Fired from job within 48 hoursThe flight attendants say that they were served show-cause notices after refusing to change their statements and terminated from service within 48 hours. All this happened on June 12, 2024, exactly a year to the day of the Ahmedabad Air India AI-171 crash that killed 272 people.
Serious allegations against DGCA and Air IndiaThe complainants claim that DGCA and Air India tried to suppress the incident and no formal investigation report has been shared till date.
They also alleged that key witnesses were kept out of the investigation and the DGCA only initiated an informal inquiry. Both the attendants had complained to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) last year.
20 years of service, still no justiceBoth flight attendants have served Air India for more than 20 years. They say the incident has caused severe damage to both their professional image and mental health.
Questions related to Dreamliner have been raised earlier as wellThe Boeing 787 Dreamliner has previously been accused of technical problems and safety issues, particularly concerning slide systems and doors.
