The monsoon season has arrived ahead of schedule this time in India. According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country nine days before its time. The effect of this is that heavy rainfall is being recorded from coastal states to hilly states. In many districts, red and yellow alerts have also been issued given the rain situation.

What will be the monsoon situation in different areas in the next 6-7 days?

1. North India
There is a possibility of heavy rain in North India due to monsoon. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on different days.

(i). Himachal Pradesh
Heavy rain is expected in Himachal Pradesh till July 6. Moderate to heavy rains will continue in many places. During this time, the greatest danger will be in high-altitude areas, where landslides, soil erosion, and traffic disruptions may occur. Warnings have also been issued regarding incidents of lightning in these areas.

(ii). Uttarakhand
Very heavy rainfall is expected in the state on July 1. At the same time, there is a possibility of continuous rain in the mountainous areas, landslides, and traffic disruptions till July 6. Apart from this, warnings have been issued regarding strong flow in rivers and streams, and crops being affected in rural areas.

(iii). Punjab
Light to moderate rainfall has been predicted in Punjab from July 1 to 6. However, the outbreak of humidity may increase in the area.

(iv). Haryana
Intermittent light to heavy rains are expected in many areas of Haryana throughout this week. This is likely to cause waterlogging in the fields, which may damage the crops.

(v). Delhi-NCR
Light to moderate rains are expected in the plains of North India. During this time, the sky will remain cloudy. People will get relief from the heat, as the temperature will remain three to five degrees below normal during this period. Some areas may also receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Also, winds of 30 to 50 km/hr are likely.

(vi). Uttar Pradesh
Heavy rains are expected in Uttar Pradesh on July 1. An alert has been issued especially given the situation in Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, and Noida of western UP. On the other hand, moderate to heavy rains are expected in eastern UP-Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ballia between July 3 and 6. There is also an alert regarding lightning in these areas. Heavy rains can increase the water level of rivers.

2. Northwest and West India

(i). Rajasthan
Rajasthan is forecast to receive light to moderate rainfall till July 2. Heavy rainfall has been warned in eastern parts on July 5. Apart from this, intermittent rain is expected at isolated places in western areas. Temperatures will drop in the state, although humidity will remain.

(ii). Gujarat
Monsoon will remain active in the state from July 1 to July 6. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in some parts. Coastal districts — like Veraval, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Navsari, Valsad, and Bharuch — are likely to receive heavy rains and strong winds (40–60 km/h).

(iii). Maharashtra, Goa
Heavy rains are likely over Konkan and Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and isolated places during the next 7 days.

3. Central India

(i). Madhya Pradesh
Monsoon will remain fully active in Madhya Pradesh till July 6. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many parts of the state, especially in eastern and central districts. Apart from this, thunderstorms and strong winds will also blow. Very heavy rainfall is expected in districts of eastern Madhya Pradesh like Jabalpur, Balaghat, and Shahdol on Tuesday (July 1). During this time, rain will continue with strong winds in mid-western Madhya Pradesh, such as Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Vidisha, etc.

Intermittent rain will continue in districts like Satna, Rewa, Katni, Damoh, Chhindwara, and Narsinghpur of Madhya Pradesh between July 2 and 4. At the same time, moderate rain is expected in many districts on July 5-6. In MP, the Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts in many parts till July 3.

(ii). Chhattisgarh

Similar conditions will prevail in Chhattisgarh as well. Most parts of Chhattisgarh, especially eastern and central Chhattisgarh, may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 1 to July 6.

4. Eastern India

Till July 6: Heavy rain is expected in Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Heavy rains have been forecast in Bihar and Odisha till July 4. Very heavy rains are forecast in Bihar till July 2 and in Odisha till July 3.

There is a warning of heavy rain at different places in West Bengal from June 30, July 1, and July 4-6.
