A young British tourist died after falling from his balcony at a popular holiday resort. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Malta but the 25-year-old was pronounced dead.
Police arrived at the hotel in St Julian on Friday morning (July 11) to find the body of a man on the ground. He reportedly fell from a balcony at the Cavalieri Art Hotel, on the east of the island, at around 4.15am. Police in the UK have since confirmed that he was from Gwynedd in northern Wales.
Malta Police said investigations are ongoing after the road outside the hotel was closed off on Friday morning. The hotel was operating as usual by 9am after the body was removed from the scene.
Welsh MP Sian Gwenllian, who represents Arfon, said: "News of the death of a 25-year-old from Gwynedd in Malta is truly devastating. The pain his family must be experiencing is unimaginable. My thoughts, and those of the people of Gwynedd, are with them in their grief."
MP Liz Saville Roberts, who represents Dwyfor Meirionnydd, added: "Heartbreaking news. My heart goes out to the young man's family at this extremely difficult time."
It comes after a British mother drowned while on holiday with her husband and son in Corfu. The 50-year-old was swimming at Roda Beach on Wednesday (July 9) before encountering strong currents and poor weather.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Greece and are in touch with the local authorities."
Meanwhile, police in Ibiza are investigating the death of a British man last Monday (July 7). The man, reportedly aged between 45 and 50, suffered a cardiac arrest in the popular resort of Playa d'en Bossa.
It is not yet clear whether the British man was on holiday on the island or lived locally, although he is thought to have been a tourist. Sources confirmed he was a British national but could not specify his exact age.
