believes that will rediscover his 'magic' as he adapts to life at , labelling the Brit an 'amazing driver'. The 40-year-old has struggled to match new team-mate since joining the Italian constructor from . Russell and Hamilton were extremely well-matched at Mercedes during their three years as team-mates, and the former has since established himself as the new team leader at Brackley.
The seven-time world champion, however, is not finding the going so smooth with his new squad. Aside from an immense performance in the Chinese Grand Prix sprint race, there have been few opportunities for Hamilton to showcase his pedigree. After four rounds of the 2025 campaign, he trails Leclerc by seven points in the standings and has only out-qualified his new team-mate once.
Asked about the struggles Hamilton has faced, Russell said: "I don't really know, to be honest. After Fernando [Alonso], he's the most experienced driver on the grid, a seven-time World Champion, and he's an incredible person and racing driver.
"We saw it in China, second race of the season, on pole in the Sprint, wins the race comfortably. I know what he's capable of, and it's not easy going into a new team and the competition is tough, but he's an amazing driver and I'm sure, when things start to click, as they did in China, we'll see more of that magic."
Hamilton will get a chance to improve his form in Jeddah this weekend. Ferrari are expecting more performance gains from their new floor, which was introduced in Bahrain last time out. However, the Scuderia will face stiff competition from McLaren and Mercedes, who expect this circuit to suit their cars.
The most important thing for Hamilton is to get mileage under his belt in his new machinery. The legendary Brit is undergoing a driving style change that is taking time to execute. "The car is sometimes quite hard to drive," he confessed in Bahrain.
"And I'm really working hard to adapt my driving style, so that's really what I've got to do. Also, get the set-up where I need it, we got a much better set-up where I moved to where Charles was, and he didn't move away from that all weekend.
"I think just getting the confidence in that and then adjusting the driving style to it. But the team did a great job with the pit stops today and the strategy."
