Jannik Sinner 'should have two-year ban' and shade thrown at Iga Swiatek

Wimbledon fans might be salivating at the prospect of a Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz final on Centre Court today, but not everyone is happy to see the world No.1 involved. After dismantling Novak Djokovic on Friday, Sinner is gunning for a first-ever tournament win at SW19 to go with his three Grand Slam titles.

The 23-year-old is also out for revenge after his agonising French Open final defeat to his Spanish rival. However, his participation in Roland Garros was a divisive issue, with the tournament his first one back after serving a three-month doping suspension. Now, one of his most vociferous critics during that saga has opened fire again.

Nick Kyrgios will be commentating during the men's final. Given his latest comments on Sinner, it could make for interesting audio after he made his latest verbal attack, and also criticised Iga Swiatek after she also served a doping ban in 2024.

Arguing that Sinner should have been banned for two years, he told the I Paper: "At the end of the day, the decision has been made, and it's kind of in the past.

"Do I think it's a good look for the sport that Iga Swiatek and Sinner are in the final at Wimbledon after serving a ban? I don't think it's a good look for the sport. And I think people could agree."

However, the exuberant Aussie denied he would be showing resentment or bias in the commentary box, adding: "I'm not going to sit there and talk about that in the final. They've been playing some incredible tennis.

"Sinner, he served a ban, which do I agree with? No. But he came back, and he's been playing some excellent tennis. He didn't look like he missed a beat, and he looked like he improved during that period of time, which is still incredible, regardless of why he was banned."

Ironically, Swiatek, who served a one-month ban last November, won her first Wimbledon crown on Saturday after hammering Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-0. The match lasted just 57 minutes on Centre Court.
