has finally returned to the director's chair 25 years after his debut with 1997's The Brave.
His new movie Modigliani: Three Days on the Wing of Madness is a biographical drama about three days in the life of the Bohemian Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
The film's official synopsis reads: A seventy-two-hour whirlwind in the life of bohemian artist Amedeo Modigliani (Riccardo Scamarcio), known as 'Modi' to his friends, follows a chaotic series of events through the streets of war-torn Paris in 1916. On the run from the police, the desire to end his career and leave the city is dismissed by fellow artists Maurice Utrillo (Bruno Gouery), Chaïm Soutine (Ryan McParland) and Modi's muse, Beatrice Hastings (Antonia Desplat). Modi seeks advice from his art dealer and friend, Leopold Zborowski (Stephen Graham)- however, after a night of hallucinations, the chaos in Modi's mind reaches a crescendo when faced with an American collector, Maurice Gangnat (Al Pacino), who has the power to change his life."

Riccardo Scamarcio stars as Modì alongside Al Pacino (who also produces the film) as Maurice Gangnat and Stephen Graham as Léopold Zborowski.
Special preview screenings of Depp's new film will take place in the UK nationwide on Thursday July 10 and "will be followed by an exclusive discussion using artist Amedeo Modigliani - who died aged 35 with little success in his lifetime - as the starting point, focusing on the plight of the artist both in history and today. Those taking part in the discussion will include Director Johnny Depp, Waldemar Januszczak (Chief Art Critic, The Sunday Times), plus special guests to be announced."
Modigliani: Three Days on the Wing of Madness releases in UK cinemas on July 11, 2025.
