A major UK train operator has urged its customers not to travel as it is facing huge disruption. LNER has been experiencing issues on a section of its route between Newark Northgate and Retford. A broken rail means the line towards Retford is blocked, severely delaying trains between Grantham and Retford/Nottingham by up to 90 minutes.
They may also be revised, cancelled or diverted. As a result, the train line is urging the public not to use its services today as disruptions are expected to continue. It said: "Due to the severity of today's disruption and the number of cancellations across the route, customers are advised not to travel."
A reducing service is running through the affected area on the undamaged line while Network Rail staff work to fix the issue.
Tickets are being accepted on other LNER services via any reasonable route, and will be valid for use tomorrow.
Passengers trying to reach Grantham and Retford have been advised to speak to station staff at Doncaster, where "onward road transport will be provided".
The rail replacement transport will run between Peterborough, Newark Northgate, Retford and Doncaster in both directions.
Services to and from Leeds were also cancelled until around 3pm on Monday.
LNER added: "You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.
"For helpful advice if you need to travel on a rail replacement service, including accessibility and bicycle information, please use our Rail Replacement Services page.
"You can find the pick-up and set-down location of rail replacement services by checking station signage or by searching for your station on our Find a Station page.
"Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey."
