Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has savagely dismissed a social media post that drew comparisons between himself and Leny Yoro. Ferdinand is hailed as one of United's greatest centre-halves, clocking up more than 450 appearances for the Red Devils while claiming 15 major honours under Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former defender departed Old Trafford in 2014 when he joined Queens Park Rangers before hanging up his boots a year later. Current United centre-back Yoro joined M16 from Lille last summer and, aged just 19, is considered among Europe's most promising young defenders.
United saw off challenges from Real Madrid and Liverpool to land the Frenchman's signature. And an X (Twitter) account called @Utd_Forever7 made a string of bizarre statements on the platform whilst lauding Yoro's prospects.
"At 19 years old, Rio Ferdinand was on loan to Bournemouth. At 19 years old, Nemanja Vidic was playing for Red Star Belgrade.
"At 19 years old, Jaap Stam was playing for FC Zwolle. At 19 years old, Leny Yoro is playing for United. He has such a high ceiling."
Ferdinand hit back: "Brooooo, I had played nearly 100 PL games by 19 and had made my England debut," followed by a laughing face emoji.
The 46-year-old has built a thriving media career since retiring from football in 2015. Ferdinand worked as a pundit for a decade at TNT Sports before departing the broadcaster at the conclusion of last season.
Insiders have revealed that the two parties parted ways on good terms, leaving the door open for future collaborations. The ex-England star also runs a successful YouTube channel where he chats with big names in football and shares his thoughts on the latest happenings in the sport.
