Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly 'weighing up' a blockbuster swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho. Talks between the two Premier League clubs are yet to commence but they are said to be considering whether Garnacho and Blues forward Christopher Nkunku could move in opposing directions.
Ruben Amorim is widely reported to have decided that the Argentina international can find a new club this summer. Chelsea are said to harbour an interest, having been strongly linked with the player during the January transfer window. A new left-winger is expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge after the Blues failed to make Jadon Sancho's loan from United permanent. Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens and Lyon's Malick Fofana have also reportedly been identified as potential targets.
According to the Telegraph, United and Chelsea are both deciding whether separate transfers involving Garnacho and Nkunku would be feasible. Nkunku is keen to leave Chelsea after two tough years following his £60m switch from RB Leipzig.
Garnacho's own desire to pursue a move this summer was underlined by him posting a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt. Sporting the name and number nine of fellow wantaway United outcast Marcus Rashford, the 20-year-old raised eyebrows by donning the shirt of a club also linked with his signature.
Villa are one of the teams said to be considering a potential move for Garnacho. Clubs in Italy and Spain have also been linked. However, the report claims that the United academy graduate would prefer to remain in the Premier League and would jump at the opportunity to join Chelsea. Nkunku, 27, has previously been linked with United and it could be a mutually beneficial swap deal for all parties.
United's director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, previously had roles at Chelsea and Leipzig. His role in negotiations could be crucial if talks over Garnacho and Nkunku ever take place.
While Garnacho remains a possibility for Chelsea, Dortmund are said to be 'expecting' England youth international Gittens to move to west London. That is despite turning down a £42m bid for the 20-year-old from the Blues earlier this summer.
Chelsea are keen to sign a new winger over the coming months. Pedro Neto is better used on the right, while there has been interest in Noni Madueke. Mykhaylo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association over alleged doping offences, and had been serving a provisional ban since December.
