'Most gruesome case' in British criminal history subject of must-see documentary this week

True crime fans are being urged to watch an upcoming documentary for Prime Video, titled The Crossbow Cannibal, which is being released on July 12.

The 90-minute documentary tells the story of Stephen Griffiths, a self-proclaimed serial killer who admitted to the murders of three women in Bradford in 2009 and 2010.

Griffiths was arrested at his apartment after, in May 2010, a caretaker reviewing CCTV images of the building made a discovery that shook him to the core.

The footage showed Griffiths chasing a woman down the corridor and dragging her back to his flat. Later charged with her murder, he brazenly introduced himself in court as The Crossbow Cannibal.

The documentary will hear from some experts involved in the case, as well as, for the first time ever, Griffiths' sister Caroline.

Caroline details her brother's bizarre, unimaginable and violent behaviour throughout their childhood as she shares her thoughts on his maniacal killing spree.

A haunting exploration of evil, the documentary sheds light on one of Britain's most terrifying killers and the dark forces that drove him to murder.

The self-confessed cannibal was desperately keen for notoriety, and the criminology student dreamed about his moment of fame.

The syopsis adds: "15 years since the 'Crossbow Cannibal' was arrested, this documentary looks at one of the most gruesome cases in British criminal history, profiling the making of a murderer who drew inspiration from other serial killers."

The documentary hears from Damian Sharp, who was tasked with planning and executing the raid to arrest Griffiths.

Viewers will also hear from Nick Rook, who was in charge of the search element of the firearms operation.

Both men detail the harrowing evidence found in Griffiths' apartment as they admit the case still sticks in their minds to this day.

Dr Nicola Davies, an expert in criminal profiling, also has her say on what fuelled Griffiths' behaviour.

Griffiths is currently serving a life term in prison for the murders of Suzanne Blamires, 36, Shelley Armitage, 31, and 43-year-old Susan Rushworth.

The Crossbow Cannibal airs on Prime Video on July 12
