Non-touristy European city has gem of a Christmas market and flights are just £32

The UK has its fair share, but if you're considering a trip abroad to explore the stalls, rides and local delicacies, then Sibiu, Romania, should be on your radar.

However, it's during the festive season that Sibiu truly shines, with an increasing number of tourists discovering its hidden gem of a Christmas market in the winter months, reported The Mirror.

We're talking a multitude of stalls offering everything from beautiful decorations to traditional festive food and drink. Plus, its historic square provides an Instagram-worthy festive backdrop, particularly with the market's towering Christmas tree taking centre stage.

It's no wonder that last year, local hotels experienced a booking boom for the opening weekend. This year, Sibiu's Christmas market is set to run from November 15 to January 5, 2026, and it's also budget-friendly for Brits.

Indeed, you can snag return flights from as low as £32 in November on Skyscanner. December fares don't see a significant increase either, with return tickets available from £35 with Wizz Air.

Bear in mind these fares won't include a second bag, so you'll need to account for luggage costs if you're planning to bring more than just a handbag or backpack!

The journey isn't overly taxing either, with an average flight time of three hours. And if you fancy a bit of exploration via a road trip, then Sibiu could be the perfect base.
