There are a myriad of cleaning tips and tricks on the internet to make dreaded chores easier, especially on carpets and area rugs, where stains tend to set in rapidly. Knowing how to get stains out of carpet successfully might sound daunting, but stubborn spots lift out easily with the right products.
No matter what kind of spill you're dealing with, the process for removing carpet stains generally remains the same. You start by removing any excess before applying your stain remover of choice, leaving it to sit, then blotting it away. However, instead of using a regular shop-bought carpet cleaner, cleaning enthusiast Sarah took to her TikTok account @sarahmcglory to test out whether shaving foam is a "cleaning powerhouse", and she was left "surprised" by the results.
Keen to remove marks from her white carpet that gets stained regularly, Sarah heard a lot about the cleaning abilities of shaving foam and wanted to give it a go. She captioned her video: "Is shaving foam a cleaning powerhouse? After a comment from someone suggesting I use it to clean my carpet, I decided to give it a shot. I am pleasantly surprised!"
Right from the start, Sarah didn't think this cleaning hack would do anything, but she was wrong. After the cleaning process, she said: "Oh, my gosh! It worked."
When using shaving foam to clean carpets, it is best to leave it on the stain for around 10 minutes to give the product an adequate amount of time to soak into the stain and break down the particles.
You can scrub the foam into the stain a little before allowing it to sit, too, helping to work it in between the fibres before blotting it away with a damp towel and drying.

The foam easily breaks down grease and other substances that cling to the carpet fibres, making them easier to remove.
Shaving foam works so well thanks to its ingredients, designed to help soften facial hair and containing a light abrasive to help break up knots and tangles and remove dead skin.
Regular white shaving cream is very unlikely to bleach your carpet, but colored shaving creams, gels, or soaps could cause discolouration, especially on lighter-colored carpets and rugs.
However, it's vital to always test the shaving foam on a smaller, inconspicuous area of the carpet first to avoid risking any damage.
Sarah also found several other things she could clean with shaving foam, like her mirrors, stained clothes and her stainless steel sink.
She shared that removing carpet stains was her "favourite" shaving cream hack as it was the most "impressive".
Taking to the comments, followers shared their thoughts on this cleaning hack; @tinamarie said: "I swear by it, and a spray bottle of hot water gets stains out every time."
One social media user, @erinherrera, wrote: "My grandma always cleaned her carpet with shaving cream. When people see me do it, they think I'm nuts."
Another, @betybee759, commented: "I couldn't believe it when I used it to clean my carpet. I tried so many other things first, and the stains wouldn't budge."
