The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has shared his favourite aspect of crafting the hit Netflix series as fans eagerly await the third and final chapter.
In a recent press conference hosted by Netflix, which Reach Screen Time and other outlets attended, director Hwang delved into the deeper significance of the shapes featured in the show.
When quizzed about the highlight of creating Squid Game, he reflected: "If I have to choose one, I would say the geometric shapes I use in the show: the circle, triangle and square.
"Those are actually the shapes that first came to mind when I first conceived of the idea of Squid Game, because I was quite literally thinking of myself as a kid playing Squid Game: that particular game."
Hwang disclosed that these shapes symbolise the cutthroat competition inherent in late capitalism and also represent the hierarchical structure among the masked guards within the series.
"So, I just think that these simple and most fundamental geometric shapes and how they have come to symbolize our show as well as the issues that we face in current society," he concluded.
He admitted finding it somewhat strange yet compelling, saying: "It does feel quite odd, but I'm just really drawn to it.
"At the beginning when I first thought of those shapes, I thought it was quite a peculiar discovery that I had made, so I'm quite fond of it and that's something that comes to mind."

Squid Game enthusiasts are on the edge of their seats as season 3 is poised to conclude the series with a bang.
The official synopsis for Squid Game season 3 reads: "A failed rebellion, the death of a friend, and a secret betrayal. Picking up in the aftermath of Season 2's bloody cliffhanger, the third and final season of Netflix's most popular series finds Gi-hun, a.k.a. Player 456, at his lowest point yet.
"But the Squid Game stops for no one, so Gi-hun will be forced to make some important choices in the face of overwhelming despair as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone's resolve. With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.
"Meanwhile, In-ho resumes his role as Front Man to welcome the mysterious VIPs, and his brother Jun-ho continues his search for the elusive island, unaware there's a traitor in their midst. Will Gi-hun make the right decisions, or will Front Man finally break his spirit?"
Squid Game season 3 is coming to Netflix on Friday, June 27. The first two seasons are available to watch on Netflix now.
