DIY SOS has cemented itself as one of the most iconic property renovation shows on British television. Nick Knowles has hosted the popular show since it landed on our screens back in 1999 and has helped thousands of people across Britain. However, not every single renovation has gone to plan. The BBC show is known for bringing communities together, and at times, many viewers at home have been reduced to tears after seeing the transformations.
There have also been numerous mishaps over the years. We have taken a deep dive into some of the biggest disasters during the programme's history, from furious builders walking out on set to homes being "ruined" after their transformations.
Stuart Phillip and his blind carer mother, Lin, argued that the show failed to deliver the promised extension. The team worked on his £200,000 semi-detached house in Torquay, Devon, and the episode aired in 2018.
Another heartbreaking episode put full-time carer Peter Chapman in the spotlight as he cared for his wife, Sarah, and their daughter. He claimed that DIY SOS did a 'botch job', saying in 2023: "We've been used and well and truly exploited. It was all done for effect."
DIY SOS can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.

What's more, Lin had given up her own place to live with Stuart, thinking there would be more room, but claimed she didn't have a place to put her chair.
Stuart reportedly said: "Mum was much happier there previously. She had more space, and she had pals."

He was offered £15,000 in compensation by the BBC, but he refused it, claiming that the repairs would cost double.

Host Nick Knowles said: "It does mean you're going to have two chippies hanging out of Chris's newly re-plastered ceiling. That's not going to go down well."
Chris exploded: "That is the last bit of plastering happening in this house," and stormed out of the building.

When the builder followed Chris outside, he tried to reassure his co-worker by letting him know the situation, but knowing how the plasterer would react, he then ran off and hid behind a bush.
"What do you mean, okay?" Chris demanded furiously. "How can you drop a line like that and end it on okay? There's nothing okay about it!"
