Aizawl: The Mizoram Olympic Association (MOA) commemorated International Olympic Day 2025 by hosting an Olympic Day run in Aizawl on Monday. Nearly 1,000 aspiring athletes took part in an early morning run that began in the Sikulpuikawn, Chanmari, and Dinthar localities.
Chief minister Lalduhoma, who graced the event, thanked the MOA for organising such a wonderful event. He praised the former sports minister and current legislator Robert Romawia Royte, president of the MOA, and the current sports minister Lalnghinglova Hmar for their active role in administering sports activities in the state.
As this year's theme is ‘move, learn, explore — together for a better world," he encourages young people to take sports more seriously for their personal health, as non-communicable diseases are the world's leading cause of death. The chief minister also encourages young people to try to qualify for future Olympic Games, as Mizoram has only two athletes who competed in the Olympics.
He applauded the state sports department's initiatives in producing as many athletes as possible under Mizoram Vision 2036, so that they qualify for the Olympics in 2036, which India plans to host.
