James Vowles envisions the future of Williams Racing as Alex Albon dominates center stage

F1 Explains presenter Christian Hewgill was midway through an extended interview with James Vowles when the Williams Racing boss revealed the team's masterplan. James Vowles spoke of the team's ambition to mature and race at the very top of the sport again, taking inspiration from McLaren's revival.

“I look up to McLaren,” he said, “McLaren were, I think, last in Bahrain a few years ago and now are world champions today...”

James Vowles, who joined Williams Racing after a successful stint with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, has brought over two decades of experience in F1, having worked with legends like Ross Brawn and Toto Wolff. He emphasised that the team is now focused on building a competitive future.

"I'm fortunate to have a really strong team around me that are doing all the hard work, really", he shared, "My job is just to make sure that we're on the right pathway, that we're looking at the right things. And every now and again, because I have been doing this for 20 years, ask questions of, 'have you seen this? What's going on with that?' You almost helicopter above it all. And that is really the job of the Team Principal."
