WhatsApp has launched the ‘ Not Even WhatsApp ’ global campaign that highlights how no one, not even the Meta-owned messaging service, can see or hear users' messages. This is WhatsApp’s largest marketing campaign to date, aiming to offer enhanced privacy to over 3 billion monthly users worldwide. The campaign starts with a brand manifesto TV spot directed by Achowe from Chalk and Cheese Films. The TV spot was filmed in various locations across Delhi, including the banks of the Yamuna River and Chandni Chowk. The 60-second spot also features some of the most iconic names, with Aamir Khan as the voice in India in Hindi and English. Take a look at the film here:
WhatsApp is launching its “Not Even WhatsApp” global privacy campaign across TV, online video, digital, (D)OOH, audio, and within the app in India, the US, UK, Brazil, and Mexico. In India, the campaign will run in 16 states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
The initiative follows the rollout of “Advanced Chat Privacy,” a new setting for one‑on‑one and group chats that blocks content from being shared outside WhatsApp. It builds on existing features like Privacy Checkup, which guides users through strengthening their account security and customising privacy settings in one place.
What this privacy campaign means for users
The advertisement offers viewers a perspective from the other side of the phone screen, showing how even WhatsApp itself cannot access user messages. The campaign highlights that even everyday messages, such as voice notes to family, selfies, conversations with friends, or personal confessions, are deeply private.
This privacy is ensured through WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption . It ensures that users’ messages and calls remain strictly between them and their contacts. No one outside the conversation (not even WhatsApp) can see their texts, listen to their calls, or share them.
Vivian Odior , Head of WhatsApp Marketing, said: “WhatsApp is the next best thing to an in-person conversation. This campaign brings to life our privacy promise that no one, not even WhatsApp can see or hear your personal messages in the most emotional and relatable way - all centered in the everyday moments we are all so familiar with.”
