NEW DELHI: A few months after R G Kar rape-murder case, now the Kolkata law college rape case has shaken the country. As police is digging deep into the case, Manojit Mishra 's lawyer, Raju Ganguly, on Wednesday claimed that there are no scratch marks on the accused's body except a "love bite."

While talking to reporters, Ganguly said that when he asked Manojit what happened on June 27, he replied that "everyone is making him out to be a villain."

"I asked him what happened that he has such serious allegations against him. He told me that everyone is making him out to be a villain," Ganguly said.

'Love bite' on Mishra's body

Further, Ganguly said that the accused took off his shirt to show that there were no scratch marks on his body. But the lawyer pointed out a mark that Mishra said is a "love bite."

"I told him that it is being said that he has several scratch marks from nails on his body. He took off his shirt, I showed him one mark (points at the neck) and asked him what it is. He told me it is a 'love bite'."

When Ganguly asked the accused how he got a love bite, police took him away.

"When I asked him who gave him that, the Police took him away. I could not see any scratch marks from nails on him. I could see one mark (points at the neck)."

"I said that the phone of the victim should also be seized, sent to forensic, and the call record should be brought before the court. After seeing the records, I feel that perhaps this is not a rape case," he added.

The accused's lawyer asserted that he has not come to a conclusion. "I would be able to tell you by 20th July whether this is rape or not."

Kolkata police earlier today said that the detective department will take over the probe into the case.
