NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for "disrespecting Indian democracy ". Speaking to the Indian diaspora in Boston, Rahul had alleged that the Election Commission (EC) has been "compromised."
Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Sambit Patra pointed out that this was not the first time that Rahul had disrespected India on foreign soil. Calling Rahul a "traitor" Patra said that it was shameful that while the US VP is India, Rahul is "disrespecting" the country in US.
""He gave a lecture at Brown University in Boston, and look at the irony, while the Vice President of the US was here, he chose to go to the US and speak against India and its democracy. This has become a pattern for the Congress party. It’s not the first time, we have seen similar behaviour during the Commonwealth era as well," Patra said.
During an address to the Indian diaspora in Boston on Sunday, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission is “compromised” and suggested there is “something very wrong with the system.” Citing the Maharashtra assembly elections, he said, “More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact... the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30pm, and in two hours around 7:30pm, 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible.” He added, “It’s very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised.”
