Massive blast rocks Quetta: Car bomb explodes outside Pakistan's paramilitary security headquarters; 10 killed, several others injured

At least ten people were killed and several others injured when a powerful car bomb exploded outside the paramilitary headquarters in Quetta on Tuesday, local media outfit Dawn reported.

The blast was reportedly heard miles away, and ambulances quickly arrived to transport the wounded to nearby hospitals.

“The blast occurred as an explosive-laden vehicle took a turn from Model Town towards Hali Road, near the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters,” said Muhammad Baloch, SSP special operations Quetta.

Provincial health minister Bakhat Kakar warned the death toll could rise. Balochistan has long been troubled by violence from groups like the banned Baloch Liberation Army demanding independence.

This follows heightened tensions in the region. On September 3, a suicide bombing at a political rally in Quetta killed 11 leaving over 40 injured. The explosion happened in a stadium car park where hundreds of Balochistan National Party (BNP) supporters had gathered.

Pakistani forces have fought a decade-long insurgency in Balochistan, with 782 killed in 2024. In March, the Baloch Liberation Army seized a train, killing off-duty troops. Since January, over 430 mostly security personnel died in attacks, including six soldiers in Bannu.
