Mahalingapur: In a major eviction drive, around 33 unauthorized sheds constructed on government revenue land in Kengeri Maddi area were demolished on Tuesday morning between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. using JCB machines.
The drive was carried out under the leadership of Rabkavi-Banahatti Tahsildar Girish Swadi, targeting structures illegally built on Survey No. 29/A of Kengeri Maddi. The demolition was executed with the help of three JCBs.
To ensure law and order during the operation, over 200 police personnel were deployed under the supervision of Jamkhandi DySP Zameer Roshan S. and Banahatti CPI Sanjeev Balgaar. Officials from the taluk administration, town municipality, and HESCOM were also present to assist the operation.
As the demolition proceeded, many residents of the 33 structures were seen scrambling to remove their belongings, creating scenes of distress and chaos, which were common throughout the area.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any resettlement or compensation measures will be taken for the affected families.
